Have you ever baked something only to watch it go to waste because no one was quite sure whether or not the unmarked cookies in the kitchen labeled “Eat Me” came with a side of Swine Flu? Have you ever spent hours slaving over a birthday cake for a friend, only to accidentally set off the fire alarm when you dozed off “just for a few seconds” while doing your physics problem set? Are you affiliated with Scripps College in any way? If you answered “yes” to one or more of these questions, then I have five letters and one word that are guaranteed to make your life sweeter: S.W.E.E.T. Bakery. “SWEET” stands for “Scrippsies Who Endow Edible Treats.” It is a new club that will provide Scripps students with a convenient way to get delicious treats while making a positive impact on the greater Claremont community. The aim of SWEET is to give local underprivileged children enjoyable birthdays by providing them with a birthday cakes designed to their specifications. The cost of the cakes is subsidized by the profits of the baked goods sold at Scripps; 100 percent of the profits from each purchase go toward buying that perfect birthday cake for a local child. This is a win-win-win situation: for just $12 you get time to finish your physics problem set, your friend gets a delicious cake (or cupcakes) and a child is able to have a very special birthday.
That’s one sweet deal if you ask me!
